Faith and Light is a community movement. At the heart of these communities are people with a more or less serious intellectual disability: children, adolescents or adults. They are surrounded by members of their family and friends, particularly young people. Faith and Light gives to persons with an intellectual disability the possibility of being recognized as unique persons, and using their gifts and discovering the joy of friendship.
Co-founded by Jean Vanier and Marie-Hélène Mathieu in 1971, Faith and Light has grown as a non-denominational Lay Movement with communities in 86 countries.
The main goal of a Faith and Light community is to support the spiritual life of people with developmental disabilities and their family. It is not difficult to start a community. Two or three families who are committed to meeting once a month for prayer and fellowship. We will help with the infrastructure, the literature and personal advice from our leaders.
